William E. (“Bill”) Sudow serves as Managing Principal of Madison Marquette, an integrated real estate investment and management company. He is responsible for the firm’s overall leadership, strategic direction, and performance, overseeing a national portfolio of retail, mixed-use, entertainment-anchored, and residential assets.
A seasoned real estate executive and strategic advisor, Bill brings more than five decades of leadership spanning investment, development, finance and governance in both the private and public sectors. A visionary, strategic thinker, and risk manager, he has helped shape major real estate, infrastructure, and policy initiatives that strengthen communities and foster sustainable, long-term growth. His career reflects a consistent commitment to aligning stakeholder goals and sound investment structures with enduring value creation.
Over the course of his career, Bill has guided national and international investors through complex real estate and private equity transactions, joint ventures, and development initiatives. He is widely recognized for his insight into strategic investment, partnership structuring, and capital markets innovation. Prior to joining Madison Marquette, Bill led the Mid-Atlantic real estate practices at Sidley Austin LLP and Jones Day LLP, and later founded Sudow Kohlhagen LLC, a boutique firm that continues to serve as Madison Marquette’s principal transaction counsel.
Beyond his corporate leadership, Bill brings deep experience and commitment to public service, serving on boards and in leadership positions with multiple civic and non-profit organizations.
He was appointed by two Governors of the Commonwealth of Virginia to two terms on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, serving two and a half years as Chairperson. In this role, he guided the Authority through its post-COVID recovery and oversaw complex negotiations, including extending the Authority’s lease with the U.S. Department of Transportation to support the monetization of its real estate assets and securing renewed agreements with the airlines serving Reagan National and Dulles International Airports.
Bill is an active Trustee of the Federal City Council, where he has served as a member and Chair of its Transportation Committee and a member of its Leadership Committee. He has served on the board of the Union Station Redevelopment Commission and the National China Garden Foundation, has served in various leadership positions with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and continues to contribute his expertise to the McLean Revitalization Corporation.
A graduate of Yale University (B.A.) and the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D.), Bill continues to champion innovation, integrity, and collaboration in every facet of his work—bridging long term visioning, strategy and public-private collaboration to achieve optimal stakeholder outcomes.
